Songs of the Month: Major Maker, Rollercoaster and Fratellis, Flathead

My local alternative radio station has been doing throwback top-tens on Sunday afternoons lately. A few weeks back they did their top ten songs from 2007, and I went on a nostalgia trip rediscovering songs I hadn’t heard since my teens, many of which I’d forgotten existed. Of those, these were the two that left the strongest impression.

I seem to remember thinking these songs were just okay back in the day, but now that they remind me of what may have been the only truly good period in my life, they feel like the peak of human cultural achievement.

Song of the Month: Aurora, A Soul With no King

Last month saw the release of Aurora’s latest album, What Happened to the Heart? Seems like it hasn’t been very long since the last album; is she that prolific, or am I just losing track of time in my old age?

I don’t know if I would say this is my favourite song on the album per se, but it’s definitely the most interesting, the most unique.

Would like to have been present for the pitch meeting for these videos. “Yeah, so I’m just gonna frolic about with a model heart and a giant dagger in a manner that is simultaneously playful, menacing, and weirdly sexual.”
